Stories on the Move: Playing with Translation
Overview
Stories on the Move is a Real Job project taken through the Real Jobs scheme. This project aimed to inspire year 10 school students to get involved with learning languages through a game-based workshop. It involves translating a French picture book (L’ennemi by Davide Cali) into English and redesigning it for UK readers (bear in mind the client intends to branch out to other books and languages in the future). I attended a Youth Panel with Dylan Milton which allowed us to observe students taking part in a workshop. They imagined they were in the role of designers, editors, translators, and marketers; collaborating and competing against each other, and working with a translation agency to pitch their ideas to publishers. The best pitches would go forward, and they would have more opportunity to work on the project and come to London to do internships.
